The St Ann's Square Fine Food Village
at St Ann's Square on Wednesday 30th Sep, 2009
St Ann’s Square will become the beating heart of MFDF 2009 when a host of local producers, celebrity chefs and culinary traders descend on the city centre space. The area is to be transformed into the Festival’s Fine Foods Village and will provide a central hub of buzzing activity throughout the event.
Gastronomes will be in heaven among a bounty of bespoke producers that will make up our Festival Fine Foods Market. MFDF, in conjunction with Manchester Markets, is bringing an array of food purveyors from across the region and beyond into the square to deliver a taste of something special. Take time to peruse the produce, talk to the traders and tantalise your tastebuds at what is sure to be a mouthwatering market.
An exciting mix of the city’s chefs and famous foodies are also set to bring the square alive in the MFDF Chef Demo Theatre, which will take up residence here too. Prepare to be wowed by the culinary wizardry of celeb chefs such as Michael Caines (Wednesday, October 7) and local food heroes when they cook up a storm live for Festival-goers.
As well as a schedule of inspiring demonstrations, the theatre will also host a variety of events and activities, including the ‘Producer of the Year Contest’ which is being judged this year by former Fat Lady and acclaimed cookery writer Clarissa Dickson Wright and leading expert on local and regional British food Henrietta Green from FoodLoversBritain.com (www.foodloversbritain.com) on Saturday, October 10. And after casting her critical eye over the local producers, Clarissa will be staying on to sign copies of her latest book Rifling through my Drawers.
During the final weekend of MFDF 2009, activities will move to Albert Square where an exciting new Festival Finale Pavilion will take shape for a spectacular end to the event. More details will be released soon.
