Gtr Mcr Ale Festival Featuring Pete Brown!

at Albert Square on Friday 09th Oct, 2009

Taking place on Friday the 9th of October and Saturday the 10th of October, Manchester’s biggest celebration of ale is back and bringing more than 30 of the best local brewers with it. Forming part of MFDF’s exciting finale weekend programme at Albert   Square, The Second Greater Manchester Ale Festival is to dedicate two days to the area’s finest beers and bespoke breweries. The event is once again being backed by CAMRA, which has recently celebrated reaching its 100,000 membership mark, and is expected to attract thousands of ale appreciators and novices alike.

The Taste Marquee is to be brought alive with a host of breweries and micro breweries that will be sampling and selling their crafted drops alongside the live music and delicious food on offer throughout the rest of the Festival Finale Pavillion. Among those pulling pints during the event will be Millstone Brewery, Allgates Brewery, Greenfield Brewery and Bank Top Brewery as well as many more.

Beer Expert and acclaimed author Peter Brown will also be presenting a reading from his latest book ‘Hops and Glory’, which unravels the history behind the original Pale Ale. This will feature complementary beers to taste and will be taking place in Manchester Town Hall from 2pm.

As part of the festival, there will also be two hotly-contended competitions to find the finest ales in Greater Manchester. The Greater Manchester People’s Pint award will enable members of the public to come along and vote for their favourite ale at the festival, while the Best Beer Brewed in Greater Manchester award will see an expert panel judge submitted beers from each brewery throughout the day on Friday, October 9 before the winner is announced at 5pm.
